Remolo or Remote Mouse

Remote Mouse is a popular trackpad remote for Mac and Windows: free with ads, or with a Pro subscription. According to its official FAQ, it only works on the local network. Remolo is a Mac-only alternative: no ads, a clicker for talks, your own buttons, and with Pro the Mac’s screen on the phone and control from any network with no extra setup.

When Remote Mouse is the better pick

  • You also have a Windows PC.
  • You only need a basic trackpad at home, and ads don’t bother you.

When Remolo is the better pick

  • The Mac should answer beyond home: Remolo Pro connects through a built-in relay with end-to-end encryption — no Tailscale, no router setup.
  • Talks: a stopwatch, a time limit with a buzz, notes from Keynote and PowerPoint, a laser and a marker.
  • Your own buttons, chains of actions, AppleScript and Shell.
  • No ads and no trackers.

Questions

Does Remote Mouse work over the internet?

Remote Mouse’s official FAQ says it only communicates over the local network and suggests setting up Tailscale yourself. In Remolo Pro, access from any network is built in.

Can I switch from Remote Mouse to Remolo?

Yes: install the free Remolo Helper on the Mac and Remolo on the iPhone, allow Accessibility and enter the code from the Mac’s screen — it takes a minute.
