Status and known issues

Remolo is made by one person. I read every report myself and answer as soon as I can. Here is whether the service is fine, why the Mac may not connect, and what is already known.

Checking the relay…

The relay is only needed to control the Mac from afar. At home, on the same network as the Mac, Remolo works without it.

Why it won’t connect

Tap “Why?” in Remolo when the Mac doesn’t answer: the app checks the network, the Mac and the service and shows one of the reasons below, in the same words.

Phone offline

Turn on Wi‑Fi or mobile data and try again.

Remolo can’t see the network

Allow “Local Network” for Remolo in Settings — otherwise the Mac can’t be found at home.

Mac isn’t on this network

Connect the iPhone to the same Wi‑Fi as the Mac. To control it from anywhere, turn on “Remote access” on the Mac.

Mac is asleep, off or without internet

Wake the Mac and check that it’s online. To keep it awake, turn on “Always ready” in Remolo Helper.

Remolo can’t wake a Mac that is asleep or off. Leave a laptop open and plugged in.

Mac fell asleep

In Remolo Helper on the Mac, turn on “Always ready”: while remote access is on, the Mac won’t sleep.

Mac on battery may have fallen asleep

Keep it on the charger: on battery the Mac sleeps to save it.

With “Always ready” on, a Mac on battery stays reachable while the charge is above 30 %, without Low Power Mode and overheating. Below that it lets itself sleep to save the battery.

A problem on our side

The Remolo relay isn’t working properly right now, and we already know. At home, on the same network as the Mac, everything works.

The relay’s state is at the top of this page.

Update Remolo Helper

On the Mac: Remolo menu → Settings → “Check for Updates”.

Mac hasn’t allowed control

On the Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → turn on Remolo Helper.

No cause found

The Mac and the network answer, yet connecting failed. Send a report — I’ll take a look.

Known issues

After a Helper update the cursor doesn’t move

Working on it
Who it affects
A Mac where Remolo Helper has just updated. Sometimes macOS “forgets” the Accessibility permission after an update, even though the switch in Settings is on.
What to do now
On the Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → turn Remolo Helper off and on again.

Esc doesn’t lift the curtain while the cursor is in a password field

Working on it
Who it affects
A Mac showing the “Hide the Mac’s screen” curtain. While a password field is active, macOS passes no key presses to apps, so Esc and “Esc three times” don’t work.
What to do now
Click with the Mac’s mouse or trackpad and the curtain goes away. To stop all control, press pause in the Remolo Helper menu.

Relay outages

There have been no outages yet. If one happens, I’ll note here what happened and when it was fixed.

No answer here?

In Remolo, shake the phone or open “Something wrong?” in the “•••” menu. The report comes to me, and the reply comes into the app, under “My reports”. Remolo is made by one person, so I don’t promise a time: I read every report and answer as soon as I can.

Or write to support@remolo.app. All answers
